Cough in children
When children have a cough, especially if they are very young, it is excruciating to see them suffer because we seem to be helpless. With persistent coughing, the little ones cannot even rest well and therefore in addition to this annoying inconvenience, there is also a lot of restlessness and nervousness. Our grandmothers, when there were still no elaborate and soothing cough pharmaceutical preparations, always had very effective natural remedies at hand, even for children still in the cradle. These herbal teas and decoctions were always effective and the grandchildren could sleep peacefully finally free from that annoying problem caused by cooling diseases.
Apple syrup and bay leaves
One of the main syrups always on the first list in the grandmother's recipe book, was that of apples and bay leaves sweetened with a nice spoonful of raw apples. Even today this syrup is used by modern mothers who love to treat their babies with natural methods. Annurche apples are mainly used and are produced in Campania but can also be found in other areas of our peninsula but other types of apples are also fine. Two beautiful apples are washed and reduced to wedges without removing the peel. Seeds and cores are removed and a liter of water is added to d together with three bay leaves. Apples seem to bring benefits to the respiratory tract above citrus fruits while laurel relieves bronchitis and pharyngitis. It is left to boil over a very gentle flame until the apples flake off and the liter of water is reduced to a single glass. The mixture is filtered and a generous spoonful of raw honey is added. The syrup is poured into a bottle and administered to the children, a spoon three or four times a day. The calming effect is guaranteed.
